From 52hikechallenge.com:
"The 52 Hike Challenge is a global movement inspiring you to take a personal journey to discover the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits gained through hiking once a week for an entire year. Thousands of people all around the world are taking the challenge to help change their lives in a positive way, one step at a time."
Signed up for this last week, got a few friends to do it too. No cost, just for fun, track your hikes and post pics on Instagram and/or Facebook. Just thought it was a fun way to stay motivated and keep my health goals top of mind. Would love to have my Sparkfriends join!
The criteria for a hike is pretty easy to meet (from the website): "we'll loosely count "getting outdoors" as a hike. This includes a hike in your local park, an urban hike, a snowshoe hike on flat land (for those who are in colder climates), a trail run, a climb in the mountains, etc. If a measurement must be made, we will say a minimum of 1 mile each hike."
Finished hike #3 on Sunday, a walk in the snowy woods on my own. Stepped off trail for a sec and my leg sunk in snow to my hip! Good thing I had trekking poles or I'd still be there! I don't forsee it being very difficult to get in the 52 hikes this year--as long as I just keep plugging along! I don't hike very far, or fast, but I get out in nature and have a good time.
I'm pretty fortunate to have lots of hiking buddies and I live in a place with infinite places to hike--literally right out the back door. The hiking buddies are a little sparse this time of year, but they'll be back!
In the meantime I'd love to see photos of YOUR hikes! Posting my hikes on instagram @bginmissoula.
Check out the 52hikeschallenge website...very inspiring!
