I recently bought a wonderful product that makes fresh soy, nut milk, or many more varieties with hardly any effort. It was a little pricy ($99.99 on amazon) but I think I will recoup my investment quickly as I can make the milk for about 10 cents per one and a half quarts. Besides that it is much more convenient than driving to the store when I run out of milk.
I was a little reluctant to spend the moneyat first, but then realized my husband has an expensive automatic grind and brew coffee machine which he uses daily. I consume some of the milk every day. I asked him what he thought and he said go for it. I also figured if I didn't like it I could return it to amazon.
I am totally enthralled with the machine. I soak a small amount (just under 1/4 cup) of soy beans that I buy in bulk at Winco overnight. In the morning I put them into the machine, fill to the fill line with water, and the machine does the rest going through multiple heating and blending cycles. All I have to do when it is done is pour the result through the included strainer. Not much left at all. I feed what is left to my chickens. The milk can also be made with non-soaked soybeans but I liked the results better when soaked. There is also a setting for raw non-cooked milks and juices.
The milk is delicious and I generally sweeten the half quart jar with a small amount of maple syrup and a little vanilla so I get both sweetened and unsweetened in the same batch.
The company was very responsive and helpful. Before I even received the machine they sent me a pdf manual to look at. They checked by email to see if I had any questions and returned answers quickly. Along with their mails they sent some new recipes. I am anxious to try making some ricotta cheese and soy yogurt with the resulting product soon.
I can definitely recommend this machine to anyone consuming alternative milk frequently. My husband even decided to stop buying his regular milk and start using the sweetened milk as he liked it so much. Before I had to buy him different cows milk. I like the extra space gained in the fridge.
