Non Scale Victories

Thursday, April 06, 2017

It is often times easy to get discouraged when you feel like you are eating right, and adding some sort of physical activity that is out of your normal realm...You feel like you are at the top of your game. We step on the scale every morning waiting and hoping to see some significant change on the scale. And when the number on the scale isn't what we were hoping to see...we find it easy to want to fall back into our nasty, bad habits.

We need to stop letting the scale have control. What non-scale victories are you experiencing? Are you gaining muscle? Are your clothes feeling looser? Do you have a streak of not drinking sugary beverages? No alcohol? Are you sleeping better? Or do you have more energy during the day? All of these things are amazing victories and you should be proud of yourself.

We didn't develop our bad habits overnight. We can't expect our bodies to rid ourselves of them overnight either. We have control and one day at a time...one victory at a time, we can do this! There is no such thing as a small victory. You hold the power. If you are journaling and tracking your food, include those small victories. Include your streaks. Do you have an accountability partner? Some great things happen when you share your journey with someone. Not only do you get motivated when you are supporting and cheering on someone else...you have someone who gets excited when you accomplish goals!

I needed this reminder today. I am tired and have been unable to go to the gym in the mornings. Going in the evening is hard but I have been doing it. Tonight, I didn't want to go. I wanted to stay home and get in bed and rest. I was having a tantrum and a pity party for myself. I told myself I was only going for 30 minutes. After 20 minutes, I was starting to wake up. After 40 minutes I told myself not to give up. I wound up staying 60 minutes...and I felt so much better! If I can do it, so can you!

Don't give up! Keep going! Be the best you possible!
