Practice Week Day 1: Changing my thinking
Saturday, June 24, 2017
Today I'm starting practice day 1 of my 5% summer challenge. A few initial thoughts: over the last few weeks I've been reading The Beck Diet solution books. It's not a diet per se but a way of using Cognitive Behavioral techniques to help you stick to whatever eating plan you've chosen. One of the things that struck me this morning was a section in the book about proving to yourself that you can stick to a plan. Every time I go off the eating plan, I'm proving to myself that I can't stick to things. Every time I stick to it is evidence that I can. That's the real psychological importance of the choices we make - being able to trust ourselves. On the other hand, when I fall off the wagon (and we all do), it's vital that I don't use that as excuse to entirely give up.
