BLC 35 Fall Round

Monday, September 11, 2017

I was really looking forward to this round kicking off. My leg is finally to a point where I could start working out again, but after the better part of 9 months of no "normal" workouts, I was really struggling to get back into the routine, and figured this would help me kick it off.

While the story with the leg is still on going (I go in to have my hardware removed in 2 weeks and have no idea what they will find), life doesn't stop in the meantime and I am tired of letting myself get lazy (and fat!). Time to get back on the bandwagon, and no matter how badly things go with the leg, keep in mind that I'll never regret staying fit and in shape, so keep at it and do what I can, even when it gets tough and depressing.

I have mobility issues of a different sort, but I wanted to point out, if it's logistically and financially feasible, that water exercise is a great way to get moving and get a great calorie burn when you have weight-bearing issues. I have bad arthritis in my knees, and couldn't move nearly as well as I do and wouldn't have lost the weight I have in the last 5 months if not for various water activities. My local Y has 3 pools and many classes, from water-based yoga, pilates, and tai-chi to water aerobics and zumba classes. And there is always good old-fashioned swimming laps! If you have an activity monitor, make sure it's 5ATM waterproof before wearing it in a class or to swim laps. SP's activity database has a lot of water activities listed.

Wishing you quick bone-knitting and a return to your previous level of activity!
