Leaving Weight Watchers

Saturday, October 28, 2017

I'm not sure if I'm making the right decision, but after 18 years of Weight Watchers , I'm going to take some time off. It's a great program and when I first started I lost weight, but now I just can't seem to get "in the groove". Combine that with menopause ( which my leader says has nothing to do with it ) and I'm very discouraged,,,,,my question to anyone reading this is, "what now" ? I feel like I need a new program or I will go "hog wild" ( pardon the pun). So, if anyone has any suggestions, I'm open.....what works for you guys ?

I was nice and slim until I hit menopause. My metabolism just tanked and I gained over 100 pounds. I think that the Spark program right here is a good one. Find a buddy who wants to lose weight too and do it together. Then track everything you eat and keep moving your body 250 steps or more per hour. It will work! Good luck, you can do it!

That is a long time! I agree with RYDERB.

I also disagree with your WW leader regarding Menopause. Hormonal balance is everything, and the evidence is also apparent in our senior spouses. I haven't found one thing or program that works for me to lose weight the way I used to be able to lose it.

I also do best when I pay attention to what my body wants and needs, and I've learned not to stress over it. It just seems to make matters worse. So I practice a lot of self care, and trying to stay focused in the moment. At least I know I'm producing less fat inducing cortisol! LOL!

Ugh! Apparently I went over the mobile site character limits. I plan on finishing this year strong, heavy on self care and tracking. Good luck finding your groove and balance.

I too completely disagree with your WW leader regarding Menopause. Hormonal balance is everything. I haven't found one thing or program that works for me. I do best when I pay attention to my body and have accountability.

Probably you have read The Spark, but I go back to it periodically. I have just started The Beck Diet Solution. Not really a diet plan, but cognitive approach. I have heard many positive comments and good results from many Spark members.

WW is a great program. But I can understand how you feel. And menopause DOES have a lot to do with things if you're going thru it. I had menopause from hell and gained over 100 lbs. in a little over a year dispite doing everything I could to stop the gain. Now for the last 11 years I've been struggling to lose it. emoticon

I use weight watchers off and on. I restarted my weightloss journey Jan. 2017 and thank goodness for WW. The weekly weigh-ins helped.

182 days ago I started getting active on SP again.

For the summer I took a hiatus from WW because of travel thinking I'd rejoin in September but it's Oct. and I have yet to rejoin. I'm exercising, tracking, and losing. I will rejoin at some point just to make lifetime. All of the times I joined I never made it to goal. I had better success with SP. I lost 68 pounds after first joining in 2009. I didn't make it to goal but I made it to 168.

I have lost 60 pounds this, my final go round (because it's a lifestyle change now), and have again reached 168. My goal is 141 putting me at normal for BMI.

I joined the 5% fall challenge here on SP. When they start the winter challenge, you could join. Challenges always help me! They post on the community page when they are opening the latest 5% challenges up for members.

Menopause brings chemical changes, but I don't think anyone has a good handle on how it affects individuals. I'm nearing 150 pounds which in pre-menopausal days would have made me slender looking. No more. I think I just have to be focus on fit these days.
