Total loss 11 lbs in 6 weeks. I"m really happy with my progress. I'm tracking with MyFitnessPal (MFP) instead of Sparkpeople. There's not so many ads & distractions. Just a more straight forward tracker. But, it's linked to my fitbit, which is linked to SP, so my weight in are showing up.

My fist goal was getting under 200. My next goal is 188, which represents losing 10% of my starting weight.

I miss my friends on SP. Why did I stop blogging? I got frustrated with myself not losing any weight. and in fact gaining. Nothing was working. My knee pain was getting worse.

I finally bit the bullet, and got a total knee replacement in May. Let me tell you, it's very painful! They had me up and walking the next day. The first 2 days are hell. The first 2 weeks are torture. I had physical therapy 3x/wk. I called my PT Darcie the Merciless. But after 6 weeks I could walk quite well & even do stairs. I got full extension of my leg. I can bend it 30 degrees. It's been 5 months & I'm walking 10k steps most days. The knee doesn't feel the same as the other.

The other big change was I found a lump in my neck about the same time I was going for knee surgery. I had a sonogram & blood work, and it turns out I have thyroid nodules & hypothyroidism. One nodule was large enough to cause concern, so I had a biopsy, which turned out benign. Once I was put on thyroid meds, the nodule has shrunk & gotten softer. And it got me thinking that maybe that was why I wasn't losing weight.

so I started with MFP, a fresh start, where I could succeed or fail, out of the public eye. And it's been a tremendous success.

Its not just as simple as taking thyroid meds & replacing a knee. There's no magic pill. I'm eating 1250 calories/day plus whatever calories I earn through walking, usually around 300 if I get my 10k steps.

If you remember me, give a shout out.

Glad to hear you are doing well and that your knee surgery went well. I can only imagine the work involved in rehabbing from it, but sounds like you have it under control.

Really happy you found something that is working for you. Everyone is unique and if you are making progress towards your goals, that is what is important.

Hi, nice to see you again! Sounds like things are going really well with you!!!

And I got my new knee in June, so I totally hear you on how painful the whole process is! But I'm walking as well, trying to get in swimming, and we're back travelling - so over all, not too bad!

Caren! So good to see you back here. You are doing great, keep it up.
Glad you got your knee and your thyroid fixed. Hypothyroidism slows down everything. I have been on meds for the last 17 years and feel so much better for it.
Way to go walking so much, you are an inspiration.

Good to hear from you!! Glad you've found something that's working for you...that's the most important part. Having been diagnosed with arthritis in my knees, I wonder if one or more knee replacements are in my future too.

Fantastic job walking so much! emoticon

Wow. You’ve been through a lot. I’m glad you’re doing so well, now! Looks like you made it to onederland along the way. emoticon I know what you mean about not being in the public eye. Sometimes it helps, sometimes not. Now that you’re back I hope you find a way to stick around without feeling pressured.
