Waited Two Hours..

Saturday, November 25, 2017

I went to the medi center after my bridge game. I waited two hours to get in to to see a young Doctor. He told me because of all the people waiting, he would be only able to address one of my four concerns. So I gave him one concern and he wasn't able to help me with it anyway :-( Senior Marginalisation? Unfortunately, seniors tend to have a lot of issues. There is a shortage of family practitioners here. Most Dr.'s won't take new patients. I have trouble getting in to see my own family Dr. as she is only at the office three days a week. My concerns were more urgent than to wait a month to get in to see her. Do I go back today and recycle in and out of the wait list to get all my needs met, taking food, water, medicine and a book?

That sounds like a horrible system. Definitely a shortage of physicians. I read recently that a high percentage of doctors would not go into medicine if they had it to do over because of all the paperwork, etc. Do you have access to nurse practitioners?

Sorry to hear that. Is there anything like Urgent Care (not ERs, just places that will see you right away with insurance). Hope you find out what is wrong soon.

Our Urgent Care facilities here in my area are excellent. I hope you get the help you need. The least he could have done was say that since he could not help with that particular problem, ask what was another he might be able to help with. If you strike out again I think I would bring that up. Of course, he might "throw" you out. Doctors can get pretty uppity. Good luck!

SO frustrating: I am so sorry you had that experience.

A little compassion could have helped a whole lot.

I think that doctor should find a new line of work. I don't know if you have any walkin clinics or urgent care centres, I would choose those and if your need more emergent care, go to your nearest hospital.

That's just terrible the idiot Dr. Could not help you out! Two hours of waiting for that! I'm beginning to think National insurance has many flaws...not enough Drs. And the ones they do have knows it and if he doesn't want to deal with you he won't get in trouble. I'd go again and maybe a different office for hopefully a better Dr. I can get un the same day when I call in or at least the next day with a nurse at least at my Dr.'s.office. Doesn't your Dr. Offer that at her office? Three days a week...there you go again...National insurance...Dr.'s do what they want, when they, regardless of patient's needs. My Dr. Is open 7 days a week. When Dr.'s can make money, it inspires them to work more.
Hope you get your issues resolved soon. ❤

I am sorry, Linda. Unfortunately, yes, seniors are often marginalized.

I am not Canadian and do not know how the medical system works there. But, I am persistent. I know what I'd do. I'd recycle in and out as you mentioned to get my needs addressed.

Yes, I see a lot of "senior marginalization" in so many areas of society, including medical.

    Hi my friend!

I don't live in Canada so I can't give you any ideas of what to do. Here in the USA, if you can't see your doctor and need to, you can either show up at the doctor's office and tell them that you will wait as long as you need to since you are sick or go to the emergency room or an urgent care center and tell them what you need and get care there. I am sorry that you can't get the care you need. I am very sad. I will pray for you. emoticon
