New Year, New Goals

Tuesday, January 02, 2018

We'll it is a new year and time to evaluate my progress from last year. This last year was one of ups and downs. A year ago in December I started working with an old friend- she became my new boss. In February the company I worked for announced that they would be closing their doors. Between February and the store's closing date-late April- I gained about 5#. In May I gained another couple of pounds, putting me back up in the low 200s( a place I said I would never be again). I lost about half of it by my August doctors appointment but my numbers were terrible. The doctor put me on meds that I have avoided for over 20 years. I lost another 6# before my November appointment putting me lower than I have been in about 15 years and my numbers were better than they had been in 25 years. WooHoo! I've started losing again! I started having knee pain worse than ever in November and the doctor recommended therapy and further testing to rule out the need for surgery. - I started getting worse until the therapist suggested pool therapy. (work finally let up a bit then as well) Then December rolled around with all the baking and parties. I usually don't do much baking this time of year except for our youth group bake sale and the church Christmas dinner, I went a bit overboard. I made fruit cake twice. (it is a big recipe) The first time was for the bake sale and only kept a small loaf for us. The second time I took part of it to the dinner, ( about 2/5 of what I made) but kept the rest of it for ME. I still have a bit left. Needless to say I have gained back about 4#. It is time to get back to work and lose a bunch before my next appointment in May. I also lost my log in streak. I was at about 600 days.... I also let my Bible study/reading slide too much after the store closed. This year - I will read my Bible daily - even if it is one chapter. I will log in daily and track my food and ecercise! I will drink a minimum of 64 ounces of fluids with lots of it water. I will gradually get back to 8000-9000 steps a day by May. I will fight this battle with food and win.- I will lose another 15# by mid May. I will not let celebrating minor progress side track me. Rewards must be non-food. I will track everything! I will track everything! I will track everything!

I definitely have a gain from the holidays...from Thanksgiving to the New Year! Went from having lost 22 pounds this year to just 14. The time to track begins now!

I want to thank you for your loyalty in reading and following my progress. It has been humbling to realize that the more I share the more I realize how much we all are not that much different. I too hit a snag during the weeks between Christmas and New Year's. I found myself tracking cookies and not vegetables. So, you are NOT ALONE in this struggle.

I believe that you have a great plan in place and that you will bounce back from the ups and downs of 2017. It was a tough year for many and so we all look forward to 2018 with great hope and faith. Two key ingredients in embracing what good will come to us.

P.S. I LOVE fruitcake!! This was the first year that I didn't have any because I couldn't get out with my back problems.
