I have to tell you...

Monday, April 23, 2018

I have to tell you about my mom. You see hubby and I have been sick since last week and I haven't been able to touch base with her. We talk every day. Some of those days I was too sick to call her. It is terrible to be so sick that your mother can't take care of you. I can't risk her catching the flu. She had pneumonia and was in hospital before Thanksgiving. She didn't think she would survive it.
She couldn't stay away. Yesterday she stopped by to leave gardening books and a sweater for me. (Also, a vintage turkey salt & pepper set for Thanksgiving that she bought at a garage sale that she was sure I needed - I won't go into that story!) My son met her outside.
Today she brought me magazines and another sweater. Luckily today I didn't have a fever, because she had to come inside to use the bathroom. I had already sprayed everything down with Lysol to kill the germs - thank goodness!
She told me how much she missed me and that I looked and sounded so much better! She said we have so much to do. We can't waste our time being sick anymore! HA!
I told her I was taking Prednisone. She told me to watch that because I could gain weight and reminded me how hard I have worked to lose those pounds.
I love her! I always get a laugh and sometimes I am shaking my head while I'm laughing. I am one lucky girl to have this funny, loving mom in my life. She is 84 and still very active, dresses well, has her nails done, plays bridge 6 days a week, volunteers, has opinions about everything, and has lived through divorce, single parenting, remarriage, loss of a husband and other close family, two heart surgeries, and she enjoys her life. She has bad days and lonely days, but I try to be there every day for her and we laugh a lot!
We are on the mend. (hubby has laryngitis since last Thursday - quiet house)
I am back on track today because my mom told me we have much to do. It feels like spring as son is giving the yard it's first mowing of the season and so it begins!
