Travel not necessarily for fun....

We were in Melbourne from 8 April for about three and a half weeks. In the last week of our stay there my computer died. When we returned I did a little research and decided on the model and make and bought a replacement. While setting it up the screen turned black (known as "black screen of death") and no matter what I did it could not come out of it, so it had to go back for a warranty claim...

When I finally had a working computer and I was able to access the internet I got a pleasant surprise - a SparkGoodie from Lise (Yiche12) with a lovely note saying that I was missed during week 4 of the Challenge and to post a blog to tell you all about our travel escapades! So here goes:

We were in Singapore/ Malaysia for the last two weeks of January, catching up with friends. When we returned we found out that the office where Lucas (my son, 28-year-old) worked in South Brisbane was closing down at the end of April. Most of the people working there were to be retrenched.

However, Lucas was lucky, he was offered a promotion and a new job description which involves more of his IT skills as well as his accounting expertise (something he has been looking for). However, the position is in Melbourne. Lucas accepted and moved to Melbourne (2,000 km away) on 10 March.

We own (read are paying off) an apartment in Melbourne which Lucas will be living in but it had been rented, our tenants moved out on 22 March after we gave them notice to leave. The apartment needed repainting and reflooring after 14 years of renting, so Hubby and I flew to Melbourne on 8 April to arrange for that and to furnish the unit (it had been rented unfurnished).

We spent our time in Melbourne in feverish, non-stop activity organising tradespeople, visiting countless showrooms to select and arrange delivery of everything that a household needs, from kitchen appliances, cutlery, pots and plates etc., white goods, beds and bedding dining and lounge room furniture etc. We also assembled some of the furniture which was delivered flat-packed.

We have so far achieved most of our aims, we are going back in August to finish all we want to do. Lucas is now living in the apartment.

Not a glamorous trip but given that Lucas has been really busy at work it would have been almost impossible for him to organise everything that needed doing. He has been really grateful for the help!

We have only one son and one daughter and we would do anything within our power to help them when they need help.

My bonus for all the extraordinary activity is that I have actually lost about 6 pounds!
