Perfect Evening

Thursday, May 17, 2018

It had been way too cold for golf Tuesday night -- the temp said 15 C but with the wind blowing it felt much much MUCH colder even in long pants and a sweater. So: we stood on the first tee for only a few minutes before deciding to bail.

But: last night was glorious!!

And of course a great escape from the chaos at the house. The outside painting project is going great -- it also involves a huge amount of carpentry, recaulking windows (and some reglazing), and of course always the prep prep prep. Such lovely people doing the work with such care -- and it's wonderful to see our old place come back to life!! We're replicating the original and traditional white and green, not opting for a trendier charcoal or sage . . . and yes, I think that's the right choice with the mellow old red brick. Reaching the highest peaks requires a "boom" for safety and the boom truck in use yesterday turned out to be too heavy for the lawn: so it was possible to use from the driveway but a smaller boom is apparently possible to get at some of the peaks on the other side of the house . . . No question the flower beds are taking a beating around the house itself but that was expected and I'm not fretting. (Biggest loss: a huge watermelon pink poppy which was a particular fave but oh well).

And yes: old toilet from the third floor bath disappeared from the driveway along with a lot of other debris yesterday . . . nice. The plumber guys are making steady progress and my claw foot tub is actually going to be raised a bit for even better views out the window!!

Easier to focus on future peace and tranquility, which WILL be restored, from the golf course!! DH had a couple of spectacular shots last night (chip in on the 7th after an errant drive, amazing chop shot on the 9th from a precarious lie adjacent to a cart path and a bush . . . ) which certainly cheered him up too!!
