5 year runniversary

Saturday, July 14, 2018

Today I participated in the San Antonio Road Runners Women's Race. I did this race 5 years ago as my graduation run from the Couch to 5K program.

I was most certainly not born a runner. I had severe asthma growing up and back then, the doctors discouraged getting my heart rate up. Which is sad of course but now, the medical field say you should ABSOLUTELY get that heart pumping. ugh. Anyway, bottom-line, I didn't grow up running. In high school we had a treadmill at home and I used it to walk, and would try to do my own version of C25K, but man... I always had a mental block and couldn't reach that mile. When we moved to Texas I met some great ladies who were runners, and encouraged me to give it a try. Again, I tried the C25K program on my own, but just absolutely stumbled with it.

Finally, a co-worker mentioned that she was going to try to start running with the local running group. They had a group C25K program. So.. I gave it a shot and don't you know.. it worked, and I just kept going. Here I am 5 years later with an insane amount of 5k's under my belt, but also a handful of half marathons!

Not sure if I'll graduate to a full marathon yet, but the desire is there. I just know how worn out I am after training for a half, I don't know if I have it in me to train for a full. LOL That's the hard part.. all that training!

So here's to you runners and almost runners and wanna be runners! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
