Chips Can Kill!

Thursday, July 26, 2018

I haven't been real active on here but that is about to change! I have spent the past 2 weeks running back and forth to a Hospital an hour away, cleaning a house and taking care of cats of my Mom who has just about ate herself to death. That sounds harsh but it's true.

She isn't huge...a little over 200 pounds. (to tell the truth at the hospital the other day I would have and did say she was a lot larger then that...becuase of all the fluid she has retained) But she has been struggling with gallstones for awhile now, and still continued to eat the fatty greesy foods that caused the gall stones in the first place or at least caused more problems.....I honestly don't know much about them.

So anyway .... in short the gall stone blocked a bile duct and because bile was "dumping" she ended up with an acute case of Pancreitist that the Dr in the emergency room told her would have killed her that evening had she not gone to the ER. Thank GOD she went! She ended up in ICU for the night...then on Ice chips for I think 8 or 9 days before they could even remove her gall bladder because of all the inflamation, infection and fluid from the pancreitist. She had to start something called TPN which is nutrition through her IV....shes been in severe pain.....Her gall bladder finally did get removed and she emediatly felt 100x's better...but has normally healing pain, still weak and will have a lot of therapy to deal with. She has a lot of work to do before she will be healthy again.

During all of this she has had to worry about pnemonia, blood clots and breathing improperly during surgery.....

All because why? Junk food is cheaper? Junk food is easier? She had no one to feed? It taste better?

I don't know how old you are....but I am 43...If I think back 30 years ago I can only think of 1 maybe 2 classmates who were actually overweight....1 I am sure had a medical issue. We didn't grow up on snack cakes and soda....Cookies that Grandma made on the weekends were a real treat and we only got 1, maybe 2 if they were small....babies were never handed a french fry or chicken nugget....they were fed real mashed potatoes that moms mashed herself! A quick breakfast was oatmeal not a pop tart! McDonlad's was a treat you got for making honor roll or because you were invited to to a Birthday Party there....Remember that..... McDonald's use to be such a treat children would ask to have Birthday parties there!

Now think about the halls of today's high school.....scary isn't it? These are children....where will there health be 30 years from now?

My Mom is only 61 years old.....she should not have problems climbing bleachers to watch her grand daughter graduate high school, she should be able to take a 2 mile walk with her daughter or hike a easy nature trail with her great grandchildren.

The day after Mom got out of ICU I went to her house and gave away more food then you can even imagine, some I felt guilt giving away because I knew its the very food that was killing my mom...the very foods these kids are being raised on, because it is cheap and easy.

I don't have a solution for this state the world is in but as for my Mom...she will be learning to shop and prepare healthy meals and snacks once she gets home....I will be helping her make the transition from Living to eat to EATING TO LIVE! No more premade processed foods....God gave each of us everything we need to eat healthy and live long healthy active lives....Fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, herbs to flavor and meat....along with a couple healthy oils (olive and coconut) we have everything we need to prepare great tasting healthy meals!
