Side Effects

Tuesday, September 04, 2018

You see plus size fashion models on the runway & in the magazines smiling (well not so much on the runway). What we don't see is their struggles behind the smiles. I know they are not trying to glamorize unhealthiness or obesity, but I can't help wondering if they suffer from the same side effects as other overweight people (myself included) suffer from. And if they do; is that the price they want to pay for being in the limelight? It's not just the physical side effects of being obese like: high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, back pain, sleep apnea, etc. etc. But it's also the mental side effects being obese such as: low self-esteem, feeling unloved, being antisocial, self-sabotage, etc. etc. Now I won't knock anybody's career choices, but it would make a person (i.e plus size models) seem more personable if they were to share their REAL personal struggles and side effects of being obese & if they are trying to better their health. I had a violent back spasm attack yesterday evening which kept me from work today & it got me to thinking that all the wonderful tasting food in the world is not worth the misery of being fat/obese!! **my 2 cents**

I hear you on a lot of that. I hated it when I was fat. I also believed I couldn't lose weight and I was stuck being fat forever!

Hm. To be honest it isn't something I've given much thought to before reading your blog post. I'd always assumed these models, were making the most of what they have to make a living--like most people do with what ever skill set or circumstances life tossed their way. Some people who are overweight do pretty well when they are younger--until that aging process starts to kick in--which is a pretty tough time for anyone in modeling, entertainment, show-biz.
