Joining the Gym at My Age!!!
Wednesday, October 10, 2018
I have to preface this whole blog with the statement that I have never, EVER, not ever been a member of a gym before in my life So this happened today! Planet Fitness has a deal right now for a limited time to join for $5.00 and then pay $10.00 a month after that. Well they have an even better deal if you have a spouse or a partner you want to come with you. It's $22.00 a month and you can bring a guest every day. So TLW and I can go to the gym together whenever we want for the almost same price as a regular membership and have access to Black Card status amenities. I won't go into all that right now, you can look it up for yourself.
Anyhow, it was an amazing experience in many ways! They have a personal trainer (although he doesn't call himself a personal trainer) that will tailor a workout program specifically for you according to your goals, whether it be weight loss or whatever. I am really intimidated by all of the gym lingo like "sets" and "reps" and "power" and "burn". I'm more comfortable with the terms "Massage Chairs", "Hydromassage" and "Total Body Enhancement".
We signed up for a class to have an orientation of the gym and the machines. They all looked pretty much the same to me, lol! But going through them one by one really opened my eyes. I'm pretty sure I won't remember for a long time which knobs to push or pull or turn or twist. I'm a little taller than the average bear, so I know I will probably have to adjust each machine for that before I start each exercise.
During the orientation, I was able to work each machine, with trial and error, much more error than trial! I alerted the whole gym to the fact that I was a "newbie" when I would swing my legs too far or let the weights fall down too fast. It's amazing how loud "clinks" and "clanks" can be in an otherwise quiet gym!!! You know that Brittany Spears song "All Eyes On Us"? that was me! I seem to have that effect wherever I go! People were kind, smiled or just looked away...lol!
I don't have a crystal ball so I don't know what the future holds, but one thing I'm sure of, I will conquer this Gym Thing! I will lose the last 60 lbs I have left to lose, and I will be healthy and happy. I will succeed with my goals just like you will.
Until next time, Peace Out.
