I passed my 1 year maintenance date!

Friday, November 16, 2018

I've been wanting to blog this for awhile, but life gets very busy sometimes! My current 'project' has been helping my Mom & Stepdad find a house so they can relocate to be closer me. They are buying a brand new home in a quiet neighborhood less than 5miles from me.
They are 81 and 89 respectively and are both spunky & active! They get regular medical care, eat well and take their vitamins...a testimony to healthy living! I tease my stepdad that nightly ice cream might be the key to longevity. ;)

In one of my previous blogs, I wrote about my years on Sparkpeople and what I learned from looking at all the wonderful data stored on the site..food logs, weight logs, etc. I realized that when I track my food then I do better with my weight. Until now, my best record for food tracking was just shy of a year at 51 weeks, 4 days from April 2011 until March 2012. My weight ranged from 130-139. When I stopped tracking what I ate, I promptly gained over 8 lbs the next 2 months!

I'm now at 531 days active on Spark according to my new 'streak' which is 75 weeks, 6 days! I set my weight goal at 137 and I reached that mark and stayed below it from 11-10-2017 until now. My current goal is 132 and I'm doing well with that...131.5 yesterday. Friends and family sometimes think I'm OCD for logging what I eat everyday, but it's a deal I have with myself because I know if I don't do that, it is too easy for me to gain weight....out of sight, out of mind! It works for me.

I woke early at 4am and decided to take a few minutes to write this and celebrate my one year of weight maintenance with this blog even if I am a few days late!

I am way behind in reading blogs. But now that I’m sure you’ve maintained for 18 months, congratulations for being such an inspiration to us all! You ROCK!

AWESOME Job. I too eat better when I log. Of course with time after the hurricane when we were stuck with no cell towers all my streaks were lost, oh well I'll start over. Should have internet back soon, WooHoo!!!

Wonderful news! Personally I don't care that some people think I'm a bit OCD for tracking my food - something I've done religiously for over 6 years. It works and if that's one of the things that it takes for me to maintain my weight, so be it.

Good luck with your move. It is both a blessing and a challenge dealing with aging parents. Focus on the blessing part.

Kudos to your mom and stepdad. That's how I want to age.

I feel the same about planning an measuring food : )
If I stop I gain... so I let others think I'm OCD if they will!
