My exercise awesomeness

Saturday, December 22, 2018

My trainer evaluated my progress Thursday. I discussed my need to find more exercises that are gentle on my joints and told her I'm satisfied with biking as my aerobic workout. I had to give up my water running! I think my "freedom of movement" as well as the relaxing effect of the really warm water caused me to be lax in noticing minute changes in form! Huh. After a few weeks I noticed my back and hip hurt less. Dang. I can still do my water exercises but also need to watch the currents created by others as I'm that greatly affected.
Stupid arthritis!

I managed to do a whole 2 full push-ups before i collapsed into a fit of giggles. I don't think I've done one since high school. She gave me some extremely simple leg lifts which when I perform them correctly kill the heck out of my abs and save my back. Who knew? Probably a lot of you! I can also now handle planks for only 10 seconds at a time but gee whiz, that's awesome for me.
Two days into these and my abs hurt and my back doesn't.

You have no idea how happy this blog makes me. Your abs hurting, 10 second planks, 2 freaking push ups. You are killing it. You have so much to be proud of. That is real progress that is going to help you as you age. This is the kind of strength we need if we want to age with any semblance of dignity. Keep it up. The rewards are tremendous.

Nothing easy about growing older, our bodies like to remind us that they’re more than willing to let us know they will complain. Arthritis, ughhhhhh...wicked stuff. Cold truly exacerbates it. Even my bionic bits are balking, as well as my hips! What?! Queen of low impact here, it’s how I roll 80% of the time. Keep after the pushups, you’re going to do more before you know it. Wall pushups are a great way to get back in the groove...and say hello to planks. They work EVERYTHING!!! Strong is hot, hot, hot!
HOHOHO, proud of you for trying something new. Let’s do this, it matters. None of it gets one ounce easier when we do nothing...

I enjoy walking and my doctor insists that is enough for me to stay fit as my lifestyle involves some lifting, etc. I still like to dance, do qigong, stretch, swim, etc. if I get the chance. No running for me.

I hope everything you are doing works out well for you. I had to give up the pool altogether as I noticed whether I did lap swimming or water aerobics I always had much pain in my hips and now that I've stopped almost all of it is gone! ( In addition to that type of movement I am sure the very cold water contributed to the pain). Doing other things now.

As long as those abs are "good hurt", great! Oh, yeah, those leg lifts... windshield wipers, etc., real ab workout, and after I changed trainers, I'm not getting assigned those any more. He has me doing ball crunches and Russian twists... but the occupational therapist gave me windshield wipers, piriformis stretches, and another one that addresses the outer glutes... all to strengthen parts that need it.

So many muscles! You're doing great!

Yay!!! I too am plagued by arthritis: and it's awesome how forgiving and grateful our bodies are when we figure out what works for each of us!!
