Healthy Eating on a budget

Thursday, January 17, 2019

Ok lets talk healthy foods. What are some of y'alls favorite, cheap but healthy foods? We are on a tight, tight budget. 7 ppl and only $125 a week for next 2 week's. And I'm the only one cutting back all the boys are overly active and eat a ton of calories which they use back up. But how do you feed a family of 7 healthy foods on that budget?? Nothing off limits except black beans **hate them** and coconut Thanks in advance

it takes planning read the sales flyers for what is on sale and plan menus around them. get more salads and fruits in, adding chicken and eggs as proteins

    check for farmers markets

a lot of stores mark down produce and meats for quick sales those are great to save money

You might check you local St. Vincent de Paul for the nearest food pantry. There is nothing shameful about using them. I run one where I live and feel good to be helping so many make ends meet. Beans (not black beans, as I don't like them either) are cheap and go a long way. If you can get chicken on sale, there are many recipes that can make a healthy nutritious meals economically. I know it is a challenge to feed 7 on that tight of a budget.

Does your city have a Food Share program through their local food bank? Its buying in bulk and cheaper direct from the farming community. Also if you live on the west coast they may have imperfect fruits & veggies that can be purchased at a discout.
