It's the most wonderful time of the month! (sarcasm)

I'm one of the lucky 3.7% of women who suffers from Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD). A lot of times, PMDD is described as a more severe version of PMS. As someone with PMDD, I can confidently say that comparison is like saying that heavy artillery is just a beefed up version of a slingshot.

PMDD has caused me to get very close to suicide in the past. It has made me so dysfunctional that I have lost jobs and nearly dropped out of school. It has led me to psychiatric hospitalizations. It has not been an easy condition for me to deal with.

I take medication to help manage it. But this month... the meds are not cutting it. I still have several days before my period begins, and I am struggling a lot. It's not to the point where I am having any thoughts of self harm. I am just very sad, sluggish, and emotional. I feel almost too crippled to do anything.

I'm going to talk to my doctor about med changes when he gets back from vacation. In the meantime, I am trying to find ways to manage it.

I already know some of the things that help. Exercise, healthy diet, and avoiding alcohol, caffeine, and excess sugar. I did some research tonight, and found some additional things that might be useful... increasing protein intake and taking a few vitamins and minerals (B6, D3, and calcium.)

The roads are icy and I drive an ancient little Corolla... but I braved the elements to get some supplements!

I just took my supplements and drank a protein shake. I am headed to the gym very soon, in hopes that the exercise will help my brain release some much-needed endorphins.

What about yoga? It may be helpful too. Best wishes for good health.

That's terrible to have to deal with such a thing each and every month. Good for you though that you have found potentials to help you out. Try them and see what happens and talk to your doc. Glad you have an open mind on alternatives/options.
