Healthy Eating, An Introduction

I am an ND - a naturopathic physician - practicing in Israel. What is a naturopath? A naturopath is a doctor who is trained in conventional medicine as well as evidence based natural therapies, including nutrition, dietary supplements, herbal medicine, aromatherapy, hydrotherapy, and lifestyle counseling to restore and maintain good health.

My blog entries are aimed at helping us to learn the things we need to know to be our healthy best and to know how to make the most of the things we have all around us and to support each other in making all of those small changes that add up to huge benefits.

The main change we need to make to help us eat more healthy foods is to prepare more healthy foods.

But before I start to outline what will help us to make more healthy meals and foods to eat to stay healthy and well for a long time, I must give a disclaimer: We all know what junk food is and that it is not good for our bodies. But sometimes good, normal foods that are healthy for one person are terribly unhealthy for another person. There are many foods that a person with various conditions should not eat even though they are generally healthy, nutritious foods for everyone else. So keep in mind that for specific health problems a naturopathic physician will advise you as to which specific foods you must eat or not eat in order to treat those conditions. Okay, with that said, let's start:

When we want to change our habits, whether they are eating habits or any other type of habit that we have, we must do it S l o w l y or it will not stay with us. Our negative side wakes up and gets ready for battle when it sees us rushing to change something too quickly. Do you remember those word games where you change one letter at a time until you go from book to home or something like that? Bonk, honk, hone, home…You get the point. If you make one small change at a time, you can find yourself over time really improving your health, losing weight, improving your kid's attention span and behavior, and more. We can do a lot just by making one little change at a time, then another and another and so on…

In my first series of blog posts, we will learn about the wonderful benefits of all kinds of things that we can find in our normal grocery store - you don't have to go out of your way or spend a fortune in specialty stores to get great health benefits.
