Making progress!

Tuesday, February 19, 2019

Well it was really slow slogging in January and I lost 2 lbs. However, I've already lost 6 lbs in February thanks to really being diligent about tracking my food, staying within my calorie range and the accountability group I'm in led by Becky (Labyrinth's Back on Track, Food Focus Challenge) I deluded myself for a long time in thinking I could eyeball a portion size so I've been measuring and weighing what I eat so I can teach my brain what a portion size actually is and the corresponding calories.

I've also started weighing myself daily and recording it on on app I found that shows me my success over the last 7 days and whatever timeframe I customize it to. (Weight tracker) Its easy to use and it shows my BMI as well. So I'm still in the Obese category according to standard BMI measurements, but oh so close to moving into the Overweight category.

My exercise is weight training and running and I'm training for a half marathon. I'm a beginner runner so taking it slow. I also took up downhill skiing this year which I really enjoyed until I had my first major fall on Sunday which has derailed my exercise plans a little. I sprained my knew so running is out of the question at the moment, but where in the past I would have turned to comfort food because my plans were derailed all I had in the back of my mind is that what I eat is 70-80% of weight loss and I can still do my upper body weight workouts. I'm keeping within my calorie range and I see a physiotherapist today to assess the damage to the knee. I will start working out again tonight. I've spent the last 2 days icing and elevating.

I'm feeling in control at the moment and seeing success so I just take it one day at a time, using Sparkpeople to read success stories, record my daily successes in our accountability group, drawing on the strength of the ladies in that group and try to encourage as many people as I can on their journey.
