Meeting Myself Where I Am Now

Monday, March 04, 2019

I'm a writer/editor for a living, and have been working all day, so I really don't feel like spending my evening writing even more. That said, I'll jot down a few words so that I can get 20 SparkPoints for completing the Day 6 challenge. emoticon

So, this is the second time I've gone through the 21-Day New Member Challenge since the new year. I made a lot of progress during the first six weeks of the year -- kept up with my exercise routines and food tracking, and managed to lose 9 lbs. without really "dieting." But then my 16-year-old Maltese's health started rapidly declining, and everything else took a back seat. Not only did I put four lbs back on, but I fell back on old (and unhealthy) coping mechanisms. Namely, drinking way too much red wine.

It's been a long time since I've buried my feelings with alcohol like I did for a couple of weeks there, so I am not proud of that. But I forgive myself, and have decided to meet myself where I am now, and to take it from there.

This is where I am, and I'm excited to see where it'll lead.

Thank you all for your kind words. I know anyone who has loved a pet can relate. They make life so full.

Sorry to hear of your pup's condition. I know how my dogs are part of my family, and we have 12 year old Black Lab who is really slowing down and I know the inevitable will happen. One crazy thing we do is now have three dogs so that the loss of one is not overwhelming. Believe me they are loved and cherished as much as we did our kids, which now they are.

I get the puppy thing. I also get having those days where it is hard to keep on track. You are wise to forgive yourself and view each day as a new start! Also be sure you pat yourself on the back for the aspects of your health you DO attend to so you don't focus on how you failed. You are your own best partner. You can do this!!! Lifeartist emoticon

P.S.: My pup is still hanging in there, though he has stopped eating for the most part. He had a pretty intense seizure last night, but came out of it wagging his tail, so it's just hard to know what's best for him. We're pretty much in hospice mode and it continues to be an emotionally stressful time for me.
