Looking for a Spring forward idea?

Saturday, March 23, 2019

Hi, SparkFriends,
If you've not already mapped out a journey to celebrate spring, why not join a 5% Challenge team for the spring challenge? We've not yet started, so still time to join a team.
The teams are VERY active and require participation but the effort sees returns. Stay the course and you'll be glad you did. Teams are very supportive, so on those "down" days, visit the team page and get a lift. If interested, search for 5% Challenge in teams.

I've been on Spark each day, but I'm not good at writing blogs.

--Thanks for the sock recommendations. The gold toed ones are great; fit well, don't get stretched out, launder well, and I thank those of you who recommended them.

--My husband wants to avoid insulin at all costs. Our doctor recommended a local hospital's diabetes education program, so we've been going 2 days a week. We exercise for about 30-40 minutes while the leaders do an educational program. We have to weigh before each class, both before and after the class take a glucose reading, heart rate and blood pressure. I ask to be referred also so I could "make" my husband go. He is being more attentive to his glucose readings. And as part of the program we met with a nutritionist and now we're much more attentive to our carbs.
When I was introduced to diabetes, in the late 50's via my grandfather, it was all about the sugar. When I was diagnosed, I was told to watch carbs, I was concerned about sugars. Now, and it makes sense, the education part focuses on carbs.

I like that the health community has become VERY proactive in teaching about not only diabetes, but other health issues as well. Lots of programs are available in relation to obesity, heart disease, depression etc. Good for you to be helping your DH!

Madonna, what a great way to get support for both you and your husband. emoticon

My family tree is completely populated by people with diabetes (Not Mom, but Mom's sisters and brothers, Mom's mother and father, Dad, Dad's sisters and Dad's mother) I have been diagnosed with hypoglycemia without diabetes. I was brought up watching sugar, but not carb intake. I have learned that 6 small meals a day, low carb diet, and plenty of exercise keeps me in a good place.

Excellent plan to help support your husband as men are usually most reluctant to take advantage of such programs. And kudos to you for sharing this in a blog!!! emoticon

I love that you and your husband are going to work out together a couple times a week. I know my husband would benefit so much if he would just go with me to the gym but nope, he still resists. Today I took a yoga class and there were almost as many men as women. I think Yoga would be so good for him.

Good luck with the upcoming challenge!
