Lunching with former work buddies

I had a great day today!
I went to the retiree luncheon and enjoyed the company of many of my retired peers and then the company of my former employees.
The CEO gave a talk on the past years' responses to disasters. I've mentioned I worked for the American Red Cross, yes? In the biomedical, blood part, not the volunteer part.
We are all one Red Cross!
It was sad to see the numbers of fires that occurred in the Philadelphia area and the lives changed by fires. Some of our Sparkers have had recent experience with fires. FIFIFRIZZLE is just starting to reconcile her losses after a construction accident fire in her home and 2BDYNAMIC has been dealing with her son's losses in the California Campfire where he lost everything! Both of those clearly accidents, unfortunate and no one was hurt.
I still can't wrap my head around people who don't have smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, ones without batteries or ones they disable. Such a simple thing to help save lives! Red Cross will provide and install smoke detectors for free. There is no excuse!
I ate well, laughed a lot and had a great day. How sweet several people were with their responses to my statement that I always feel at home there.
"It's because you made it home for all of us."
Walking on clouds.
