Call me the Crazy Cat Lady... a title well-earned!

Wednesday, April 24, 2019

There has been a lot of fun and new stuff going on since I got involved in cat rescue two years ago. In fact, April 2017 was my very first experience: I grabbed a pregnant feral cat off my porch and put her in our bathroom. She had kittens hours later, and that’s how I got started... and how we got our Scrappy boy! (Mama Fuzzy was TNRed and lives outside our house.)

Now DH and I have a houseful, which is a lot of work but very rewarding... and yes, DH likes cats - people always ask me that.

It is Kitten Season. So far we placed 16 pregnant cats in our network of volunteers. Here at home, I have two moms with young litters (six 5-days-old, three 4-weeks-old), three orphan kittens (two at 12 weeks, one at 8 weeks), three ferals with good potential for taming, three ferals who need a safe place to go, and six of our own (one to be adopted out... maybe!).

I will be posting photos and videos with short bios and explanations, so this is the introduction to subsequent cat-related blogs.

However, the spur that created the main body of this blog is to celebrate a once in a lifetime Non Scale Victory!

I was given the massive responsibility (and privilege!) of implementing a mobile adoption bus program, and our first outing is Saturday, April 27! The converted Greyhound bus was remodeled to perfect specifications, but using it as intended for the city shelters was mired in red tape.

The foundation that sponsors my costs at the spay/neuter clinic asked me to put the bus to use. As a private group, I have more options. Basically, they provide the money for whatever we need for the bus outing; while I supply the cats and volunteers, and figure out what to do.

My NSV is that I overcame my fear of the public responsibility, and the paralyzing mental block of how to organize the adoption program and everything that would have to be done. Now I am excited and nervous, and especially thrilled to be a part of this amazing opportunity!!!

See you after for the results!

@PATRICIA-CR ~ I miss you SO much!!! It is a joy to see your comments on my posts!

@DIANEDOESSMILES ~ I got a toy for the cats: a big feather on top of a flexible stick in a weighted base that twirled the feather around. The youngers batted at it as expected, but Scrappy grabbed the feather in his teeth and ran away with the whole contraption!

This is so WICKED NEAT Elizabeth!! Love the bus!!

Instead of STUFF the bus with goods it'll be UNSTUFF the bus by stuffing oneself with love!! Adopt a pet!! WooHoo loving it!!

Awww the kitties are so PRECIOUS!! See we kittens too!! Love kittens!!

LOL from Amazon I got Izzy this little bug thing that has a small feather on the end. Its runs on a small battery and if it gets in a corner etc it gets out of it! Its so funny the noises she makes at it.

TY for this work as well as being a Leader with us on the Awesome A team!!
