May 16th: Sunshine & Flowers

Thursday, May 16, 2019

My 19-yo daughter and I ran some errands after work yesterday. We stopped by a local flower market and picked up some beauties paid for with my Mother's Day gift. My own mother passed away a little over two years ago. She had an extraordinary gift when it came to outdoor flowers. Gardening took up most of her time during the summer months. By the time she died, every inch of extra space was crowded with riotous color.

For the previous two summers, I have planned on making her a memorial garden in my backyard, but as soon as the flowers started cropping up at big box stores, home improvement centers, and local markets - the memories would sadden my heart and I would be unable to move forward.

I miss her just as much today - but I've decided that it's time to get the garden set up. I want to do a bird feeding station, wind chimes, and beautiful, bright flowers. I rarely spend time in my backyard, but hope to change that this summer.

(This is a black cherry petunia that my 19yo purchased for herself)

As for our other errands - I purchased our groceries. I meant to take a picture, but after all the errands I was exhausted!

Some of my purchase and their WW points: (FYI I get 40 points daily)

2 dozen eggs - 0
Turkey bacon - 1 per slice
Shrimp - 0
93/7 Ground turkey - 3 per 3 oz
Lean beef hot dogs - 2
Jalapeno chicken sausage - 3
Reduced fat cream cheese - 1 for 2 tsps
Black beans, Chickpeas - 0
Crystal lite - 0
Pineapple - 0
Avocado - varies on weight
Baby bella mushrooms - 0
Cilantro - 0
Broccoli 0
Kale - 0
Turkey sticks (like pepperoni?) - 1
Turkey pepperoni - 1 pt/14
Mini pizza crusts (found @ Dollar Tree) 5 per whole crust
La Banderita low-carb wraps - 1
SF/FF Vanilla Pudding Mix - 1 pt for 1/4 box (I mix with ff plain Greek yogurt)

We already had lots of brown rice, a bulgur/quinoa mix, whole grain pastas, potatoes, frozen riced cauliflower and lots of other veggies. I'm not sure exactly what my meal prep will be - but for the next few days I made turkey taco bowls.

Does anyone have any big plans for the weekend? I am going to spend time with my boyfriend and tomorrow night I will be making dinner for my dad & family - but other than that and some gardening, no big plans.

Gorgeous Flowers , thanks for sharing. I have never seen a Black Cherry Petunia before, so striking, I love it...Will have to try and see if I can find in our garden centres...

I too have many memories of my beloved Mom's gardens and flowers she would buy me.... My Mom passed in 2001 from cancer...

This weekend I plan to do extra gardening and some yard work clean-up.

You asked about yogurt. I buy Danone Probiotic Vanilla Yogurt and also use Greek Vanilla Yogurt, I sometimes use the Greek Plain yogurt in place of sour cream which tastes just fine. I mainly eat vanilla flavored yogurt and if I want some added fiber I add a tablespoon or so of Granola, my favorite granola is Rogers raspberry almond flavored which is so good.... emoticon

The yogurt ends up tasting like the vanilla flavored yogurt you can buy? Then you can use the plain yogurt in place of sour cream I imagine.
