It doesn't seem long ago that we took a four-day Easter weekend -- during which we worked valiantly filling the third dumpster and reorganizing our house.
But here we are again, the first "official" summer long weekend of the year in Canada: May 24, Victoria Day -- in honour of Queen Victoria's birthday. Just three days -- and there's a long weekend in July, August, and September as well.
Typically Canadians head north to open their cottages/summer homes, putting out their docks and so forth. We don't have a summer home: never wanted the additional travel battling traffic Fridays and Sundays or the additional maintenance. We rented cottages when our kids were small so they could have this quintessentially Canadian experience of blackflies and mosquitoes. DH always complained it was "child care under primitive circumstances": he likes nothing "rougher" than either side of a fairway on a golf course!!
And we'll spend this weekend in a much more low key fashion, with our son visiting for a few days from his far north work location. I wanted him to see what we'd done to the house: the very home, the very room he'd slept in since his arrival after birth from the hospital 32 years ago. Hoping he would like it and not feel it too strange. And: he does!!
I expect there may be some golf possible tomorrow: today is still pretty chilly. He's a tech whiz and has inspired DH to figure out how to hook up Netflix again as well!!
