Belated Mother's Day

Saturday, May 18, 2019

Today I met my sister and Mom for a belated Mother's Day brunch in a nearby town. My Mom came across on the ferry and my sister and I met her and walked a few blocks up from the water to our traditional Mother's Day lunch spot. The sun was shining, the birds were singing and the town was alive with happy pedestrians out walking their dogs and carrying huge bouquets of flowers from the nearby Saturday market.

The lunch spot is quite popular and specializes in grilled cheese sandwiches and soups. I chose the grilled gruyere with caramelized onions and tomato soup. It was even better than the smokey cheddar that I usually have. We had a lovely talk and walk and gift exchange. The years go by too fast and I don't see enough of those two.

Now onto the mundane for the rest of the weekend. There are weeds to be pulled, laundry to be done and of course cleaning the house. And if I'm feeling really ambitious I may even get to the gym. I've been waiting to ask one of those kids that work there how to get abs like Jillian Michaels and watch for the blank stare I receive in return (because they've likely never heard of Jillian Michaels since there's quite a large age gap). And no, I'm not just doing it solely to be mischievous...I actually really would like to have abs like hers! Not gonna happen eating grilled cheese sandwiches, I know... emoticon

The description of your morning brunch was lovely. I was almost transported there.

Enjoy those precious times with your mum and sister. Make sure to ask about things from the past. I lost my sister in 1981. My dad died 8 years ago and my mum earlier this year as you know. I miss them all. I have no one from my 'birth family' left. No one to confirm or explain memories that crop up. Being an orphan sucks no matter what your age is.

As to the weeds, the laundry, the cleaning, and any other mundane chores - they'll still be there tomorrow, of that you can be sure. Loved ones though - who knows? Make the most of whatever time you have with them.

Wonderful way to celebrate Mother's Day! That sounds like a fabulous restaurant - and hey, one grilled cheese isn't going to ruin all your hard work. (Weeks and weeks of 'cheating,' such as I have been doing, might...but that's another story!)
