Things are changing - finally

Sunday, June 02, 2019

You have all been so wonderful and so very supportive. I can't thank you all enough. My dear Tom is starting to fuss about some of the little things around here - like his Mac needed to be updated and his printer needing to be reset. I have no idea what those things mean but it is a very good sign to me that he is starting to think of things other than how lousy he feels.

We have kept our spreadsheet for one week. Last Sunday he consumed 459 calories, yesterday it was up to 879. So of course he is starting to feel better. He is moving around a bit more in the house and has ventured outside a couple of times this weekend. He even watered the plants I bought yesterday but was too tired to plant. He's trying to be helpful!

We see the home speech therapist tomorrow and I hope he can help us with why Tom is having a hard time swallowing. Then physical therapy at home on Tuesday. Tuesday afternoon we will meet with the Urology Surgeon who will be performing two procedures later in the month. We have been told pretty much nothing about them, why he needs them and what will happen after. Being a man who wants to know exactly how everything works - he as really stressing. And on Thursday 3 of his friends from the Art Center are coming over to visit. He's hesitant about that but I think it will be so very good for him to see friends.

So it will be a busy couple weeks for us but things are starting to improve and I couldn't be happier. I even was able to go to church this morning!

Glad things are looking better and he is eating more. How did it go with the speech therapist? Great that he went outside and got some fresh air to lift his spirits. Wonderful to hear some friends of his will be visiting. I hope he appreciates how lucky he is to have you coordinating everything and taking care of him!

Sometimes you can be just too tired and stressed to even think about asking another question about procedures. Maybe a call to his doctor would help if he's still stressing about what and why. Glad to hear things are taking a slow turn around and that you were able to get out to go to church. Hugs and continuing prayers.

Kathy, that's great news! It's wonderful that you're starting to see light at the end of this long, scary tunnel. From where I sit, YOU, my dear, are playing such a huge part in Tom's recovery. That spreadsheet was such a good idea, and I know in his heart (and maybe out loud, too), he is thanking you for your loving care. I hope this trend continues and you get some answers and help in making Tom completely well again.

It's a blessing that DH is improving and life is a bit easier for you. I definitely would be asking lots of questions before surgery. "No" is always a choice. Hope you are able to answers from the speech pathologist. A visit from friends might be just what he needs to lower his anxiety and raise his spirits.

Hang in there dear friend. emoticon emoticon

Awesome that your DH is getting more nutrition. For sure that will help him feel better!

    And moving around . . . awesome. That’s great.

Here’s wishing good luck to your DH tomorrow w/the speech therapist. My father had a speech therapist come to the house tor swallowing training. It helped him.

Sounds like he has a busy schedule w/PT, urology appointment and discussion of his procedures. That’s nice that some of his friends are coming to visit. I think it’ll cheer him up!

HUGS to you. You’re doing a good job.

wow you are going to have a busy time. So relieved that you are finding some encouraging progress with hubby. Just a little at a time, and I do help you find out why the procedures are scheduled. It's a lot strange that they have scheduled these things and you don't know why. Ask lots of questions.

Glad he is feeling a bit better. It's scary when you don't know what is going on. Write down your questions for the doctor so you don't miss any you both want to ask. I have to do that otherwise I would surely forget to ask something. Good luck. emoticon

I’m so glad things are getting a little bit better for both of your sakes. I know it must be very frustrating and, at times, trying to an illness that came on so quickly and seems so bizarre. You are a strong woman, Kathy.
