Today is the first day...

After my latest blood work, the doctor referred me to a dietitian. The appointment was weeks out, so I decided to do a food diary as a reference point for discussion with her. Sparkpeople was the perfect way to do it. I was more interested in tracking my habits at that point than changing them. Well, after a few days patterns began to emerge. It helped me pinpoint where the imbalance was, in my case the calorie count was within the suggested range, the carbs about 50% but the protein to fat ratio not ideal, and fiber very deficient. So now that I know what needs improvement, the strategy will be to decrease saturated fat, replace it with good fats, more protein and fiber, the perfect food to do this is beans. I have a load of refried beans in the pressure cooker and Taco Tuesday will be bean burrito Tuesday this week.
Due to a family member going into hospital last week and eating at the hospital food court for a few days I wasn't able to track as I didn't have the info needed, (or the motivation) but now is the time to make a dedicated start on the new improved nutrition. I ordered my groceries online yesterday and had them delivered this morning. Not going to the store saves me more in impulse buying than the delivery charge LOL.
The dietitian had heard of Sparkpeople, mostly the social media aspect, but I pulled up my profile in her office and she was very impressed with the many features. I feel sure she will be recommending it to other patients.
