Matty is coming home! I was so happy to hear that my son and family are coming home from Florida for a visit this summer! Matty has not been home in over 4 years and his grandmother at 97, has changed a lot since he last saw her.
The light in Mom's life is starting to flicker. Growing old is not for cowards. Accepting frailties and failures in memory can be uncomfortable. Somehow, Mom is able to do it all with grace, and we love her for it.
This is the time for the family to reconnect with her. Sam made a trip North from his home in New Jersey in April to celebrate Mom's birthday. It was a wonderful time, but I wondered if she remembered who Sam is. Sam remembers, and that is all that matters. There have been days when Mom has not remembered who I am, and she sees me every week.
This is a time to hold Mom close and love her in her sunset years. We remember Mom. If Mom remembers my son Matty and his family, it will be an extra blessing.
The good news that Mom will see her grandson and his family makes my heart glad. Matty is no longer a child. He is a grown man with two daughters of his own. Lina just graduated from kindergarten. Sometimes it feels like just yesterday, Matty graduated from high school.
