No fear of any critters: explanation

Thursday, June 20, 2019

I think it's familial curiosity of nature.
I was maybe 4 or 5 when Dad took me hunting for salamanders in the local creek.
I got my first "farm injury" at 5 by barbed wire being chased by cows from the farm behind our house. You shouldn't "bait" a cow, they have feelings.
Mom brought in any baby animal needing fed. Non-fledgling Robins and baby rabbits and squirrels lived in boxes in our kitchen and she even got up in the middle of the night to feed them.
She shrugged the day the shoe box was devoid of the snake I brought home and left in the kitchen. Never found it.
Classic Mom: She was sitting in her recliner in front of the burning fireplace when a mouse scampered across the hearth. "Must be cold out." was all we got.
Dad had similar feelings towards the small beasties.

My family? DH runs in fear of any rodents, sans bunnies. I think he has permanent damage from our pets of hamsters, guinea pigs and rabbits. Mice make him squeal.
I'm the bug catcher, worm mover, mouse chaser and dead bird picker upper!

Have a great day!

Eek! I can catch bugs and move worms, but I draw the line at snakes, mice, lizards, and picking up dead birds. In our house that's what my husband is for...

Yup, I too was the kid seeking out shell bugs under rocks, collecting grasshoppers to feed my preying mantis, and exploring "owl spit ups" for the rodent skulls inside 'em!!

Not so happy when a leech attached itself to my toes, however!!

I can't say I like snakes, but other critters are ok by me as long as they mind their own business! LOL

"Must be cold out." was all we got … I love it.

I'm a country girl at heart with a city slicker's mentality. NO snakes.

Always thankful for kitties and puppies that like chasing bugs. Carl eats ants. I will go after whatever I need to, but the cats are faster at catching birds, bats and rodents... so why fight nature?

Love your "mom" story! I had cousins that would take a hammer to a mouse that was threatening the grain bin... farm kids learn young!

    Hahahaha....I squeal at mice, too...it’s a reflex!
My GD Lucy is like you...too curious to ever not observe, if not pick up animals of any kind.

Super Woman, what’s on your cape? Your hubs runs squealing...first giggle goes to you. Mr. Swat team dude...just proves ya never know. Hahaha, no judgment just some levity this morning. My only qualifier is I won’t do dead. If it’s alive I will scoop it up or chase it out. If it’s not moving, I won’t touch it. Funny how we all are oh so different. Life would be oh so boring if we weren’t...

Love your mother. She was my kind of girl. I like most animals but not snakes. My mom made me afraid of them when she caught me playing with one as a toddler. I love rodents, lizards, turtles, frogs, birds, most mammals. I like them better than most people. My hubby is not afraid of much of anything but certain types of people. LOL.
