June Wrap Up
Monday, July 01, 2019
I came back here a while ago but kept putting off writing a blog post. I deleted the old ones as they were from a couple of years ago I think and also just cleared the page etc. It's been so long, a fresh start is good. And really how many times can I write: I'm back and then disappear without any changes. So I gave it a bit of time first, to settle in a routine and see if this time I'm actually going to make those changes I keep talking about.
I started around May, first just trying to exercise again on a regular basis as that hadn't happened in months if not a year. So on to June!
My goal was to lose some weight every week and get into a routine. And it happened so much better than expected. I've lost around 3kg and for the full month of June I exercised 6 days/week. I'm still trying to figure out the training program as my Tuesday/Thursday workout classes have changed but for now it's looking like below. I'm planning to take up swimming once/week so I think one of the spin classes will have to get replaced.
Monday - run
Tuesday - spin class
Wednesday - run
Thursday - strength routine followed by a stretching and mobility class
Friday - run
Saturday - spin class followed by strength (maybe)
Sunday - rest
There were definitely a few days in there when I almost didn't go to the gym and it was a struggle. Initially I was going in the morning before work but as much as I like it, I was struggling to get enough sleep. I don't like as much running after work, but I think I've come to a good balance now.
Eating was an interesting exercise this month. I've been focusing on macros more than calories and it's been fascinating. I was really struggling with the protein so in the end I've incorporated a protein shake every day. I finally found a brand that I actually like!
I have had no take-away since mid-May and that's probably the biggest accomplishment. There were some nights after work when it was all I wanted but thinking about all the progress I've made really helped. I'm also generally craving less junk food which I assume has to do with the diet changes.
Overall June has been a great month. I'm really looking forward to more progress in July!
