Starting the Day in Nature
Wednesday, July 03, 2019
I've been enjoying having our breakfast on the porch with the hummingbirds, song birds, bees, etc... It's a very calming way to start the day. I brought my computer out here to get my sparkpeople fitness game on after doing some yoga on the wraparound porch.
The outdoor yoga videos I like best reminded me that I can do that right here! I don't have to travel or pay for it. It also reminded me to be thankful that I am able to do this physically (body) and physically (home).
I enjoy seeing the fruits of my labor as I have planted all the landscaping myself beginning mostly with starts/cuttings/propagation from other friend's gardens or nearly dead plants bought on sale. My gardens, like my fitness and health life are vibrant, beautiful, a testament to my faith and also--not perfect. There are bushes that need trimming and weeding that needs to always be done. I am trying to persevere and not let what still needs to be done to discourage me.
I remember reading about a group of people on sparkpeople who had a challenge to open their outside door as soon as they woke up and get some sunlight on their faces. The theory being that our eyes register the sunlight with waking up... that being outside in the sunlight, for even a few minutes, would connect them to nature and create happiness and calm at the start of the day. I believe it works.
