I was asked to blog about my "why" for my weight-loss goal. So here goes. For my long-term goal, I would love to lose about 50 pounds overall. For my shorter-term goal, I want to move from being considered obese to simply being considered overweight by the end of summer.
Because I want to feel better. I want to have energy to complete the "to-do" list I have made. I want to have the strength and flexibility to keep up with my grand-daughter when she visits. I want to be able to get up off the floor after playing with her without having to crawl to the nearest chair to push up from. I want to be able to run around the yard and play games without getting winded and needing to sit down.
A couple of years ago, when I found out I was first going to be a grandmother, I was able to lose 35 pounds and I felt better and had more energy. Thanks to SparkPeople I was staying motivated to make healthier choices and create healthier habits. But over time I gained back 25 of those 35 pounds. I think the stress of my job as a teacher had something to do with it. Our middle school went through many changes and I was in survival mode much of the time; feeling like I could never turn off the job. Don't get me wrong. I loved being around and helping those 8th graders, but it was all consuming. Consequently, I retired from teaching at the end of this school year and am now looking to gain control of my life again.
I have committed to checking in with SparkPeople every day. I am recording everything I consume, as best I can. I am trying to make healthier choices and be more active. I use the SparkPeople Premium coaching to help me stay on track and I am staying in at least one calendar challenge at all times. It is taking baby steps but I feel like I am making progress.
