And now it's Tuesday

Tuesday, July 09, 2019

Surgery went well although it took longer than she anticipated because things were a little worse than expected. I suppose that happens a lot. They can't really know what's inside until they open things up and look. The waiting was endless but it was very nice to have the company and those two usually very active boys were on their best behavior. They even had questions for the Surgeon when she talked with us after surgery was done. Thoughtful questions. She responded to them the same as if it had been me or their dad asking!

Unfortunately, because the surgery was a bit more invasive than anticipated my DH is having to spend one more night in the hospital. He's not in a regular room but in a wing of the surgery after care area called "Extended Care". He has a nurse but the room is the same as the room you go into to prep for surgery and to recover from same-day surgery. The only thing extra is a television. No bathroom, no shower, he hasn't even been able to brush his teeth although the nurse did say she would get what he needed and help get him up to the sink in the room.

I went fairly early this morning because I thought we'd be going home. Because we have Daisy AND the traffic gets really bad mid-afternoon, I had to leave earlier than I would have liked. So I'm home now feeling a bit guilty for leaving him, but he is getting the care he needs and hopefully is also getting some much needed rest.

Tomorrow I will wait until after the doctor visits him to find out what time I should come. My neighbor has been great about coming over and checking on Daisy but my sweet little girl refuses to go outside, or even to leave her kennel. I suppose she would eventually if she had to go to the bathroom bad enough!

So I have the rest of the evening to myself and I believe I will just relax and enjoy the quiet. I love my DH so much but we are both very independent people. Being in such close proximity for so long has been a challenge and we are both anxious to get back to our routines.

Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers. I really appreciate each and every one of you. I wish I had time to respond to each of you but the days do get long!

Glad the surgery is over with & went well, although longer than expected. It was probably good that he stayed overnight. Otherwise you might've had your hands full. He's in the best place right now where they can take care of all his needs, medical & otherwise. emoticon
I hope you get the much needed rest you need, too. emoticon emoticon

So nice to hear that DH is doing well after his surgery. Although I must say, his location for recovery is not the best, at least that's my opinion. Family support is important when something this is happening. It sounds like you and DH were both in good hands. Get some rest tonight. Poor Daisy, maybe she will rest easy, too.

Prayers and warm thoughts continue for you and DH. emoticon

Thanks for the update, and for the "good" news.
Staying that extra night with knowledgeable caregivers is best for him. And, I hope you get rest tonight knowing that. And poor Daisy, I hope she'll be o.k. for one more day.

So glad the surgery is over but sorry it was a longer surgery, and that he has to stay. And then have to spend the night with no bathroom in the room.

Glad to hear the surgery went well, even though a bit more involved than they thought. Your husband is where he should be for the extra night, they want to make sure all is going well before sending him home. This gives you a night to sit back and relax for the evening.

I'm so glad to hear the surgery went well! That's very good news!

No need to feel guilty for not being at the hospital longer than necessary. You're right that Tom needs his rest, and I have a feeling it's more productive in the long run for you to be home recuperating from your own sort-of-ordeal of taking care of him for all these months when you had no idea what was happening and you were doing your absolute best and being very patient to try to figure it all out and restore him to good health. Your rest and relaxation now is SO well deserved! Enjoy the freedom to do exactly as you wish for a little while, for as we all know, for most of us women those carefree whiles are indeed little! You'll need your energy again soon when he's home and still recovering and needing help.

Please take care, drive safely, enjoy a little respite, and I do hope that you're both back in your happy routine very soon.

glad things went well . You just got to love how you get to a room and they do not have a bathroom .. When I had my surgery, they knew I was staying overnight but forgot to book a room. I spent twenty two hours in the recovery room with all those lights, noises and lots of other patients.

poor daisy.. yes she will go when she has to.. Hopefully you will get some rest tonight
