Punctuation pickiness

Tuesday, July 23, 2019

My last blog was titled by a quote from Shakespeare:
" it's Well That Ends Well "

What has bugged me for a long time, and now that I'm 60 years old I think I've finally got it right for the rest of my life ...

It is when to use " its " and when to use " it's "

For the possessive form:
" a dog's breakfast"

If I referred to the dog as "it" then I'd want to write:
" it's breakfast"
but this is wrong! The contraction " it's " is always short for " it is ", and is not the possessive form.

Correct is:
" its breakfast "

Its enough to drive you crazy .... er, I mean ... it's enough to drive you crazy.
