Hold On

Saturday, July 27, 2019

This poem I wrote last night after coming back from the funeral visitation of my friend's former pastor. He was only 69 and left behind a wife, two daughters, one son and three grandchildren plus numerous friends and church members. I was crying because Agent orange took his life. The factory he was working at made it during the Vietnam War. he had no family history of ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease. It is what he told my friend before he died. It just made me cry because he was a man after God's own heart.

Hold On

No words can convey or say
What I feel for you today
How my heart just aches
I wish that I could take

Take away the pain you feel
But only God can heal
Only He can give comfort
For your sorrow and hurt

Know that I hurt with you
I remember Him too
I know that he loved the Lord
He was passionate about the Word

He cared about the people
Not just the church steeple
For I witnessed that care
The short time I was there

I felt loved and understood
I knew that he was good
Not by the world’s standards
For he was God centered

As I think of you tonight
You may be out of sight
But you are in my mind
Not left behind

You are in my prayers
And in God’s care
One day we will all meet
On those golden streets

One day all pain will be gone
We’ll join heaven’s throng
Death will be no more
When we reach heaven’s shore

So, hold on to Jesus’s hand
Till we reach that blessed land
Hold on and He’ll see you through
For He’s faithful and true.

I'm so sorry for this loss. Your poem is quite beautiful Laura. It tells me that you knew this man well, that you do and will miss him and that you love Jesus as he did. Count me as your friend in Him. emoticon
