Happy Labor Day!

What is Labor Day! What does it mean to you?

Well officially it started exactly 125 years ago today! And it is to help celebrate the greatest workers of them all the American worker. I know a lot of us see Labor Day as a 3 day weekend and a chance to break out the barbecue and grill up some awesome food. Which in my book I never needed a holiday to fire up the grill, I love to grill!! And for the young people see it as a last ditch break before heading back to the grindstone of higher education.

As for me, the meaning of labor Day changed the day I started to serve my awesome country in the Army and it really cemented the way it means when I became a police officer. Back in the day before I joined I was like a typical American boy living in the suburbs I thought of labor day as a day to enjoy at the pool with my friends and to enjoy some awesome food. And to look forward to the upcoming football season and to dread the fact that I had to go back to school. But now as the many, many, many years have past I think of labor day to celebrate the American spirit. The pride of every American heart as they head off to work. From the farmers to the plant workers, to the teachers and professors, the coal miners to railroad workers. I could go on and on, you catch my drift. A lot of these jobs are thankless and some of these jobs are down right dangerous and a lot of people do not care to do. That to me is the great American spirit! And for me I am partial to those awesome men and women of our Armed Forces who stand on that wall to protect us from the evils of the world. And to my fellow brother and sisters in blue who walk that thin blue line who protect us from the rest of the evil in the world and to those brave men and women of the firefighters and EMS professions. If I could I would everyone a great big hug of thanks! Without these fine outstanding Americans, American would not be as great as it is. So thank you American for your outstanding work force and thank you for keeping us strong!

That is what Labor Day means to me! What does it mean to you? Have a great and safe Labor Day everyone! And thank you for stopping by and reading! God bless!

Labor Day to me is about my great-grandparents and grandparents and the other laborers of their gnerations I grew up hearing the stories of them being indentured, the jobs they did, hours they worked. the women and the men. Of my family only my maternal grandmother did not work outside her home, she was deaf and what happene for her was her house was "marked" meaning that hobos between jobs knew they would fed at that house. My paternal grandmother was a seamstress that got pregnant by a traveling salesman. To support my dad she would ride a train from Albany to NYC to work while family members cared for dad, she'd see him 1 day a week. Mom went to 13 high schools and didn't graduate due to her dad moving from city to city Just a couple tidbits I'd hear.

When working at the hospital and thinking bout complaining. I remember what those Laborers were having to do which in turn made our lives SO MUCH easier, I was humbled. Our country is pretty damn great

I never take these folks for granted and have lifelong appreciation. I've wondered how you and your wife are doing. Hope things have improved since your last blog.
