Crossing the goal line

Saturday, September 21, 2019

Watching the Arkansas Razorback football team tonight NOT crossing the goal line got me thinking about my goal lines. I want so badly to get below 200 lbs. Although I've lost over a hundred lbs already, I can't seem to make the push over the next "goal line." Eight pounds. Eight little pounds, when I've shed over a hundred, to get below 200 lbs.

Now here's the thing - It's not that I've been actively exercising, drinking all my water and moderating my eating. In fact, I've been loosey goosey lately. I guess I'm waiting to see if the weight loss miraculously happens without any effort on my part. Wish in one hand and ... well, you know the rest of that saying, I'm sure. It ends with, "See which one gets full the fastest."

Spent a lot of years in Al-Anon, a support group for friends and family of alcoholics. They have numerous great sayings, some called "slogans." One that has a whimsical way of making a point is "Denial is not a river in Egypt." There's a lot of denial in the life of addicts and their loved ones until you do what's called "working" the program and get brutally honest. One of my favorite Al-Anon sayings is generally chanted in unison by the group at the end of the meeting - "Keep coming back. It works if you work it."

Here's another, "Progress, not perfection." I may not always perfectly stay the course, steadily taking the necessary steps to cross this next goal line. However, I'll keep coming back (to SP) knowing that it works, if I work it. Looking forward to crossing all those goal lines ahead.

I am so proud of you losing so much weight already. It is much more difficult after losing a lot of weight. I do exercise daily, drink water all day...I cannot lose anything anymore. Of course, meds could play a part. Keep pushing...you will get there.

I love those sayings and slogans especially "Denial is not a river in Egypt". We all go through periods when it is hard to focus on losing when we have been through that already, but, we need to get back on track and for me as a Senior I realize my quality of life has to be my focus for my future senior years. I see so many my age now who can barely walk and more than 50% seems to have knee and other joint problems. I know I have to keep pushing or I will be one of those. emoticon emoticon
