It's about time!

I have always considered writing a blog but never knew where to start! Reading other blogs here I have come to realize it is like journaling only public. Hopefully this will be the first of many. It's about time!
I have come to realize that I have not been paying enough attention to my needs and wants. I have always taken care of others before myself. It is not selfish to think of myself first but I feel guilty. The realization that I am where I am today is partly due to not thinking of myself first.
I love to cook! I cook for my family not for myself. That is changing. I have been more actively cooking what I like and how I want to cook versus how my family likes things which is fried. My son is the only exception to this. He is not a big fan of fried foods. Seems odd for a teenager but is good. It's about time!
Exercise is not a something I truly enjoyed. I have changed that as well. When I started this weight loss journey (this is one of many for me), I had a heartfelt talk with God and asked him to help me. As a result, I have started waking before the alarm at 520 so I can get in a workout before I have to get everyone else up and moving. It is nice and so much easier. I have a magnet that says "I have to exercise early in the morning before my brain wakes up to realize what my body is doing"! LOL. So true. I feel so much better and more energized when I do! It's about time!
I am starting to put my health needs first too. Making a followup appointment for my husband the other day I realized I have taken care of his medical needs (he had colon cancer a year ago) ahead of my own. I made me an appointment to go have my followup mamogram to check a lump again and will be making my appointment for a upper GI soon. (Getting personal here, sorry!) I don't have a problem at all taking care of this for him. I am so grateful that he is cancer free now, just need to start thinking about what I need to do again. It's about time!
I hope this will inspire you, dear reader, to do the same. Schedule that appointment you have been putting off. Go for that walk even if you go alone. Eat that apple instead of the candy bar. Take care of yourself so you can be around to take care of those you love!
