Cooking that cares

Sunday, December 08, 2019

Our usual Sunday morning service we were given a reminder of what we are called to do. Feed his sheep. We all spend a lot of effort at this time of year looking for ways to help those less fortunate and yet sometimes I wonder if we are the less fortunate.

We try to take some time each year to feed people in our local community and the church as a group lovingly prepares homemade food for them and yet when we look to our own diets we don't exercise the same loving care in its preparation. We fight time, we look for convenience, we ignore our own best interest and the interests of those who are truly important to us. Our diets consist of fast foods and commercially prepared foods . We forget how to feed ourselves and our bodies suffer the consequences.

I encourage everyone to take time out to feed his sheep. It is a great opportunity to relearn how to prepare food from scratch. If you learn to find joy in the food you prepare for strangers you can find joy in taking the time to prepare food for yourself. Its not what you eat, its how you make it.
