Sometimes Christmas is Sad

Friday, December 20, 2019

Every Christmas is different. Often sad. I remember the year my mother's brother was hit by a train and both legs were cut off very high to top. My mother was called to the hospital and I had to help wrap gifts and trim the tree. I was a teenager but never did those things before. Our tree magically appeared overnight, fresh, 8 feet tall, trimmed with lovely ornaments and had a train running around. Our stockings hung from the mantel with an orange, big apple, and little things we liked. From the time I was little Santa did these things.
When I had 3 children, one just a baby, I was called 500 miles away on Christmas Eve because my mother at age 57 had a massive cerebral hemorrhage and was not expected to survive. She gained consciousness many days later but never regained the use of entire left side.
Seventeen years she died on Dec. 23rd and calling hours were the day after Christmas.
But we knew she was a Christian and we all had a different outlook on death than many people do. It was really a beautiful time even though there was sadness.
We never know what the Holiday Season may bring, but we do know the true meaning of Christmas and wish all people would remember that.
