Tumalo Canal Hike
Wednesday, January 08, 2020
Yesterday, I hiked in the Tumalo Canal historic district. This area in the Oregon high Desert is the site of a failed dam project. Property was sold as farmland, and irrigation ditches were dug. But when the damn was filled with water, it all leaked out through the sandy soil. The founder of the project was hanging in effigy. The BLM has set aside this area for hiking, and it is fun to hike along the old abandoned canals.

I’m glad I got my hike done yesterday. Today I came down with a cold, so I am staying home and canceling book club. Book club was supposed to meet at my house. But I think most people would rather not get a serving of germs! Luckily another book club member volunteered to host in my stead. It is stormy and snowy today, so it is a good day to stay home.
