More Peace by Chocolate!
Friday, January 17, 2020
Sorry that yesterday's link didn't load for some of you . . . the Tareq Hadhad story (a Syrian refugee having lost everything, in Canada just four years, re-established his Damascus family chocolate business in Antigonish and yesterday became a Canadian citizen) really captured my attention.
He comes across as a remarkable, resilient and joyous human being. .Mr. Hadhad has a TedTalk which I plan to check out, and regularly speaks about peace: there's also a peace foundation which receives an annual percentage of the company's profits. The business began as a small home factory but grew rapidly and has created a lot of employment -- and apparently a lot of top quality chocolate!!
And there's plenty more on the Internet: including the Peace by Chocolate website itself if I felt tempted to order some chocolate. Apparently they are packaging Valentine's gifts with unsolicited love advice from couples who've been together for a long time!! I'm always interested in what makes a marriage work . . . since of course I see so many that haven't.
How lucky Canada is that such people bring their talents here. And why is it that some people who've experienced disasters are entirely crushed, whereas others survive and thrive and are so fully alive?
