I really enjoyed everybody's comments on my dishwasher blog!! It seems dishwashing memories are something many of us have.
When DH and I first married we had no dishwasher -- and in fact this was a little point of contention between us. He didn't think a dishwasher was necessary. With a baby and a full time job and much more social entertaining then than now: I did.
However, when our house was severely damaged by a tornado in 1985 while my husband was out on the golf course, he came running up the street when he heard the news (cars weren't allowed because of gas line damage in the neighbourhood). There I was on the front lawn with our basset hound Ambrose and our 1 year old daughter in my arms . . .
DH said, "You're OK. Our baby is OK. Our dog is OK. What about the house?"
And I told him: "I went into the kitchen and there was NO dishwasher!!" He thought that was pretty funny, and when we rebuilt the house (a process that took about a year, and involved a considerable period living in various temporary residences) we got a dishwasher -- however, I no longer wanted to live in that house and shortly afterwards we moved to the house where we're still living.
This morning when we got up, dear Henry appeared to have eaten something that disagreed with him . . . with disastrous explosive consequences. He's been absolutely reliable with his house training since about 10 weeks and he was embarrassed and worried. We comforted and consoled him . . . he was shortly zooming around the back yard at rocket speed, and everything is now restored to sweet-smelling cleanliness. DH is a rock in situations like that . . and the clean up (not so pleasant!!) brought to mind various times the same kind of thing happened with our kids when they were tiny. What a team, getting the fresh sheets and the clean jammies and running the little person through a warm bath . . .
OK then: DH has also been out with the snowblower attending to the driveway and walks, and cleaning off the back deck.
But other than that . . . it's a snow day after a significant snowfall yesterday. No plans to do anything much at all . . . Next on my agenda, a leisurely soak in my claw foot tub!
