Pella is a smallish town in central-south Iowa. That just means it is south of I-80 and close to Des Moines. It was founded by immigrants from The Netherlands and has kept that influence since it was founded in 1847. They have a huge tulip festival every year. en.wikipedia.org
There is a beautiful picture of this canal that cuts through a center in downtown on that web page. But right now it looks like this.
It has pretty much been snowing since 10:30am. Twice today I could see people pushing snow from beside the buildings into the canal to no avail. Everything is now back to what it was before they started clearing.
I am giving a program on spinning (general) and then teaching a class on spindle spinning on Thursday. When I saw the weather reports I cancelled my local things and left home early this morning. As I was checking into the hotel at 9:30am (I was lucky they had a room vacant) it started to sleet. I was very glad to put the car into the underground garage!
After I got settled and got my bearings, I went for a walk-about, ended up in a coffee shop for some knitting, reading, and coffee. On my way back I cut through a walkway/alley sort of thing and found some lovely gates and doors.
I spent the afternoon in my hotel room knitting, researching, and reading. It is so nice to not have to pick up my knitting like I do at home because there if I do not it will be cat-ercised!
