WOW...it's come down to the surgery after many years of lower back pain and most recently, the calf pain that got worse in the last several months and new in the pain department...butt, or sits bone pain all on the left! I thought some of that was going to go away after my hip replacement in Sept. 2018, but my surgeon did tell me, "this is not going to take care of your back pain".
Now onto the spinal fusion I had on 1/15/20....WOW, I was very groggy in the hospital afterwards, to be expected, and then Friday came...two days after the surgery and it was brought up to me you can go home or you can upstairs to rehab or an outside facility. Bottom line, talking it over with hubby, I made the best decision to stay at the hospital and got taken up from the 4th floor to the 7th floor rebhab! I do NOT regret this decision. I received the best PT and OT care and learned so much!! I had 3hours broken up daily with both therapies!! It was tough, but I needed that and now following those exercises given at home!
I have to add this: up in rehab, I had 3 roommates total...all at different times, but each one had diabetes. I am prediabetic, and it was a real wake up call as the nurse told my 2nd roommate, 11 years younger than me, who looked 11 years older than me...that she was slowly killing herself! Her blood sugars were running from 300-500, she had high blood pressure, heart problems as well and only 55 years old!! The saddest part was after being told she may lose fingers, toes, vision, she would tell the aides she wanted coffee with 4 sugar packets!! She and I talked about our health problems, and I tried to encourage her to limit her sugar, as I know for me, being PD, I am doing that, to try to have a positive attitude and limit the sugar and eat to live....not live to eat! I am hoping she is doing better...she was still there when I came home this past Monday.
Today two weeks out, I feel like I am really on the mend...all with prayers, a great doctor and a wonderful husband to help me. I cannot forget my Spark friends, who prayed for me and lifted me up with encouraging words and brought a smile to my face!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! God is so good, and let us never forget this...even when things don't go our way! BLESSINGS TO YOU ALL!!
