How’s everybody’s Sunday going? It’s currently 55 degrees and partly sunny in Memphis right now. Such a nice change from the usual drab rainy days we’ve been having, and expect to have all this week. My birthday week, too! Boo.
But I will make the best of it.
My week started off today with a bit of a rude surprise for weigh in.
Sunday’s are my weigh in days. I am basically in maintenance mode but I like to keep track of the scale weight and fat/muscle percentages just to give me a loose idea of where I stand each week. I had been in a stubborn plateau since Dec 1st, until last week when I inexplicably lost 4 pounds in nine days. Oh I was so happy! This, after eating all kinds of naughty food while on a getaway with my daughter. I ate what I wanted and had zero remorse. And lost 4 pounds?
Since then, I have done fairly well with my eating, overall. Maybe a little too lax, as I had just gotten away with much worse the week before. And this morning, lo and behold, I had gained back the 4 pounds I just lost. Up 4 pounds in one week. It makes zero sense. No rhyme and no reason. And my body fat percentage went down 3%. Maddening.
This just proves what we all should already know. THE SCALE IS A RIDICULOUS, ANNOYING CONTRAPTION and it CANNOT BE TRUSTED.
I don’t know why I insist on getting on the dang thing week after week. Photos, the way clothes fit, measurements, and the way we FEEL are all better indicators of the work and efforts we put into ourselves. Scale numbers mean nothing. Nothing, I tell you!
I’ll be 52 this week and I am not going to deny myself any indulgences I may chose to have. Of course, my fitness will continue as always, so that helps. Darn you, scale. You’re not the boss of me. I’m going to take advantage of my special occasion and not let this “harsh my mellow” for my birthday week.
